The Gift of Guidance – Our Leadership Retreat
We are beyond grateful to Jeanne Reaves Consulting; Jeanne provided us with a first-class organizational and board governance consultation during our second annual leadership retreat.
Aging UP’s founders work closely with our board of directors to develop and enhance strategies, best practices, polices and other aspects that lead the organization. In 2016, our founders and board finalized our original strategic plan, which took months to develop. We’re proud to say we have hit the milestones we set!
As we near our two-year operational anniversary, we knew it was time to look to the future and continue to forge past our initial goals. And, we knew who to reach out to.
Jeanne’s business leadership and philanthropy has helped shaped Sacramento and she has been an inspiration and long-time friend to our co-founder April. After humbly inquiring about her services, Jeanne generously offered to provide us with a complete consultation, which included leading us in a full-day of training and brainstorming. We excitedly began working with her to plan our retreat.
Jeanne started the retreat with questioning what we wanted to gain. As a group, we had six main topics. She then trained us on the ins and outs of board governance. After a break for lunch, we returned to dive deep and honestly looked at the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the organization, through a SWOT analysis.
Jeanne’s magic truly became apparent after this exercise. It was incredible to be lead down this path of discovery. We had strengths we hadn’t considered, and we became fully aware of areas where we can improve. Jeanne’s guided discussion revealed that those areas of concern or that we wanted to work on, stemmed from two very addressable sources.
Now we have a roadmap that will make Aging UP even more efficient and effective! We ended the day with an incredible sense of empowerment and achievable goals that will better serve youth with experience in foster care.
