Play to Empower 2025 Wrap-UP

Four images of happy attendees

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for Play to Empower 2025! Your energy, generosity and joy made this year’s event one to remember. Together, we raised more than $25,000 of critical funds to empower youth with experience in foster care through mentoring—building connections, confidence and self-sufficiency.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to event sponsors IFG (The iFish Group), Golden 1 Credit UnionUC Davis Health, Nugget Markets, and Capitol Advisors Group. We are also thankful to more than 50 local businesses that contributed to our raffle and new silent auction (check them out below). Each generous partner invested in positive change for teens and young adults who deserve it most.

The evening kicked off with happy hour, as guests mingled, enjoyed food and drinks, and entered to win incredible raffle baskets or auction items. They also participated in a putting contest and snapped pics at the photo station. Then it was time for dinner and Topgolf play. Throughout the evening, guests could purchase Empower Flags to cover the cost of a necessary youth or program need. Event Coordinator Amber Sosa, along with 14 volunteers, ensured the behind-the-scenes efforts went smoothly to maximize guest fun. And special guest Rachel from FSA Auctions was an enthusiastic and heartfelt emcee, keeping the energy up and everyone informed about everything that was happening.

Of course, the most impactful moments of the evening came from our featured Mentoring Match, Mieke and Jessica, celebrating three amazing years together! From their very first meeting—when they unknowingly struck the same pose for a photo—it was clear they were a match meant to be.

During their on-stage Q&A conversation, they reflected on favorite memories and milestones. Jessica shared how much life has changed in the past year: she graduated from high school, earned her driver’s license, bought her first car, and started community college! Through each accomplishment, her mentor, Mieke, a college professor, was right by her side—cheering her on, offering guidance, and celebrating every success.

Hearing their story reminded everyone in the room why mentoring matters and the profound effect of connection. For us, mentoring is not just about moments of fun—it’s about creating steady, caring relationships that enable youth to believe in what’s possible.

Many lucky guests walked away with the bonus of winning one of 20 themed raffle baskets, valued at $200 or more, or they bid and won one of 5 auction items—a new element to this year’s event.

It was truly a wonderful time of community and fun! We are deeply grateful to everyone who showed up, gave generously, and had a blast. Together, we proved once again that when our community plays to empower, everyone wins.
